V&S Schuler Utilities Group acquired Whitlow Electric Service Company in Elberton, Georgia, on Sept. 9, giving us a strong presence in the Southeast market and further expanding our operations following the acquisition of Capital Steel in January.

With this acquisition, V&S Schuler Utilities Group now consists of five companies and six facilities.

Founded in 1963, the Georgia company will now be known as V&S Whitlow Electric. The businessmanufactures a wide range of structural steel andsubstation components at a 200,000-square-foot facility that sits on 11 acres of property. V&S Schuler Tubular Products collaborated with Whitlow on projects for years, providing tapered tubular poles for substations.

“The addition of Whitlow Electric, coupled with the acquisition of Capital Steel earlier this year, increases our potential production volume in a busy market and gives us geographic coverage across the eastern half of the United States,” V&S Schuler Utilities Managing Director Greg Shaheen said.

“In addition, we can now shift work between our sites to minimize our lead-times and keep each plant busy.”

Chief Executive Officer Bruce Whitlow and all Whitlow employees are staying with the company.

V&S Schuler Engineering Operations Manager George Cook will oversee Whitlow’s transition to the V&S Schuler Utilities Group.

As the integration project lead on the acquisition, Cook will spend much of the fall in Georgia.

“Whitlow Electric is highly regarded in the industry, and the company is a great addition to V&S Schuler Utilities Group,”  Cook said. “Working with everyone and getting to know them  has been rewarding, and I appreciate the hospitality shown by all.

“I want to thank Group President Tim Tehan, Corporate Development Director Mark Kimak, and everyone at Hill and Smith PLC for the work upfront and support they’ve shown throughout this integration. The electrical utility industry will continue to grow long term, and we have the capability and reputation to grow with it.”
