IT’S OFFICIAL: V&S SCHULER OPENING 2ND CANTON PLANT
V&S Schuler Engineering, Inc. purchased a 80,000 square-foot facility in Canton, Ohio, in late March, giving us two plants in the Hall of Fame city along with another one Burton, Ohio. This acquisition was in the works for more than a year and will enable us to expand our product line, increase production, and assemble large structures in-house for customers.
Located about three miles from our existing Canton headquarters, the 5.5-acre property features two buildings totaling about 76,000 square feet for manufacturing and 4,000 square feet of office space.
“The size of this facility and its proximity to our existing Canton location our ideal,” V&S Schuler Engineering Operations Manager George Cook said. “We’ve outgrown our existing location, and having another plant just around the corner will enable us to streamline manufacturing and create all kinds of new opportunities for V&S.”
The second plant will serve as our shipping headquarters, opening more manufacturing space at our current location.
“By moving the shipping department, we’re be able to expand our line of tapered tubular product line at our existing facility,” Cook said.
The additional facility will house production of ZoneGuard, the highway barrier product we produce for our parent company, Hill & Smith. V&S Schuler is also looking to increase our line of road safety products to include Crash Cushion Barriers and Variable Message Trailers.
In addition, V&S Schuler Engineering plans to produce fully assembled substation structures at the new facility, giving customers a great alternative to constructing them on site.
“Building complete substations in our shop saves time in the field, and construction in a controlled environment is safer than on-site assembly,” Cook said. “We’re bringing the substation right to the field.”
The facility will undergo extensive updates and remodeling in the coming months. In all, we’re spending about $700,000 in renovations to electric service, LED lighting, remodeled offices, a new lunchroom and bathrooms, and upgrades to all data and security systems. We expect to start operations there in June or July.
“This expansion lets us to do even more for our customers and gives us the capacity to meet any and all of their needs,” Cook said.
